I have no qualms about Pierce Brosnan playing Mike, although he seems a bit old. He's an underrated actor.

Are you sure you weren't thinking of Melissa Leo to play Jo? She'd be awesome, and she's roughly the same age as Brosnan.

I vote Naomi Watts for Mattie.

Melissa George has already been cast as Mattie. She's older than the book character, too, so it seems like they've up-aged it a bit. Annabeth Gish plays Jo Noonan and Anika Noni Rose will be Sara Tidwell.
