Just a quick thumbs-up on the audiobook version.
Bronson Pinchot does a great job bringing the characters to life as the story is told.
Anyone who is hesitant to read a "fairy tale" should give the audio a try.

I love the good ole ink and paper version too!
Hi,
Aye, me too, though I imagine the audio IS great and I'll listen to it someday!
Re-read it recently and, like most things king, it improves and improves on re-reads IMO.
This time Frisky the Anduan husky , stood out as a character, he has a wonderfully deft way with animal characters IMO. (think Wolf, Oy and even Cujo).
Long days and pleasant nights
The other good thing about the audio is, I plan on reading it to my little punkaro and now I have voices to emulate when I do it.
Such a great story.
I liked the older version and am just about finished listening to the Pinchot version. Gotta give it to Balki, he does a hell of a job. I had to turn it up in the beginning to hear what Flagg was saying and it sounded like he had a lisp, must've been going for a snake like sssss with every s, but he tones it down as the story goes on. His Irish for the servants is really good too.
i also found the hissing ssssssss's pretty annoying, but I agree that they toned down as the story went along. Great book!
