Cell is proof that Mr. King is a literary genius. His use of situational irony is superb I could not put it down due to its brevity. I just want to say thanks to Mr. King.
I came away with a sense that...oh sheesh....we have guns.
and i dreamed about it. i dreamed i was pumping gas, finished up, and went inside to pay. SK was there, at a school desk, of all places, reading a book...
I walk in, he looks up, and I think, sheesh, me w/o a book for him to sign. I think at him, "great stories" and he thinks back at me, "thanks"
then...all these people hunkered down by the lil debbies....people on the board here, is what i figure...well, they stand up and they leave...they want to get away from me..and I can't say that I blame them. shoot man, just ask.
so....sk walks out with them, and I figure...
I dun recall what i figure...but I prolly figure, well, that's life, that's life all over me and there you go. just ask.
Scared. Really. No other Stephen's book had frightened me the way in which Cell does. Perhaps because its story is so close to our everyday life and "reality".
I'm actually reading Cell right now - I'm at the part where they saw the football field. If that ever happened I'd be "safe" because I don't have a cell phone.
I agree! This is one of my favourites aswell; didn't seem to be SK's normal style when I read it but it also seemed fresh and the way that it throws you straight into the story is a relief because SK tends to like to spend a while talking about the characters first.
