Just finished SoS over the weekend. Is the journal at the end of the book really true excerpts from SK's journal? Or was it written so as to provide a backdrop to the story and process?
Very intriguing either way. Loved the book.

That is so cool. I love how he explains why all his books have connections pertaining to The Dark Tower.
The journal idea was pretty kick-arse in my opinion. I loved it![]()
Another question on the journal, probably for Ms. Mod--
In the journal, he say that the Waste Lands was a "brick" and over 800 pages. But the Waste Lands ended up being just over 500 pgs. So what happened there? Did he edit the book down from 800 to 500 after the first draft, or what happened?

Manuscript pages never come out the same as the final print version even if there are no edits. Manuscripts are single-sided, double-spaced and the font size of the manuscript before/after it is type-set for the print copy are all factors in the final page count. The page size also factors in, i.e. hardcover, paperback, and trade editions are all different sizes that will affect final page count.
I really liked the Journal he had written in Song of Susanna. When I bought the book 2009 and realize the Journal in the end I become very happy because I always liked to read about his life and there was other nice thing too.
the journal had a way of continuing to make me feel like the reality i know is no longer separate from the reality of the tower...
