Edgar still a painting genius?

Edgar became a painting Genius because of Perse.. so when they silenced Purse to sleep, did he loose the ability? He says that he has to do a final painting but it read as though he was still good at it... What do you think?

I think it's one he was driven to do, before the "gift" began to slowly fade away...

I'm sure he still had some talent, didn't he used to draw with some skill even before going to Duma Key, before even the accident? Anyway, I'm also sure that the spark of genius left him after the events with Perse, and now he's nothing more than a decent artist...not that there's anything wrong with decent.

I agree, he had 'doodled' some before but hadnt taken the time to explore that talent-he was too busy making money. I think he still had some dwindling touch left over from Perse, but dont think he had much. certainly not enough to drive him to paint,paint,paint!

yeck! I just reread my last post. wasnt quite what I meant to say. I meant that he supposedly had some 'talent' but never pursued it. After he survives Duma Key, I am lead to believe he still has some lingering 'perse enhanced' talent, but not to the compulsive extent as previously stated. (hope that wasnt 'clear as mud') lol

My understanding of Edgar's "gift" is that (just like in IT) there was "good magic" guiding and protecting the protagonists inasmuch as the "bad magic" was trying to destroy them. The "good magic" was at least amplified, if not created by, the protagonists. Edgar, Elizabeth, Wireman, and even Jack during the "Noveen puppet scene" were all helped out by the "good magic." My interpretation is that the "good magic" existed in Edgar even after Perse's demise if, for no other reason, than to ensure that final painting was manifested and Duma Key's destiny came about.
