My Mum's a diabetic so I can't get her chocolate. I can't buy her flowers, cause flowers eventually die and wither out. She's been really cool to us this last couple of years and helped us out a lot financially - so I wanted to get her something that lasts forever, you know? Also, she refuses to believe that The Shawshank Redemption is based on a Stephen King story!
So I thought a brand spanking new copy of Different Seasons would make a nice present. She's something of a Stephen King fan herself, and borrowed Under The Dome, The Stand and Full Dark, No Stars off me (she LOVED that one!) and she gave me all her old Stephen King books when I told her I was getting into him as an author. Her favourites are Four Past Midnight and The Dark Half.
My Mum's a big reader, and so is my older brother. Mum got us interested in reading at quite a young age. I remember she bought me a copy of H.G Wells' The War Of The Worlds my my 12th birthday and I never looked back!
It's cool to give the gift of reading back, especially with a book that's particularly dear to my own heart. I sure hope she enjoys it!
I wish she'd stop trying to get me to read the Jack Reacher books though. They just ain't my thing.
