Just re-read "The Dark Half" for the first time since the mid '90s. Back then I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Stark kept referring to Liz as "Beth". Well, today, at 52 years old, I still have no idea!
Somebody help?

Her full name was Elizabeth. Sometimes that's shortened to Liz, other times to Beth, and also Betty. It makes sense to me that Stark would choose a different nickname than the one Thad used.
I also thought it was a bit of an homage to the short story "Strawberry Spring", an early creepfest if there ever was one.
My reasoning was exactly the same as Ms Mods, she explained it perfectly.![]()
