Default Salem's Lot a precurser to SK's style

Just finished re-reading Salem's Lot, first time since it was published in 75. It occurred to me while reading how much he had already deveoped his unmistakable style in 1975. Similarities, in a good way, to many of his later stories are scattered throughout The Lot. I personally find it very comforting, like having a conversation with an old friend. Nuances like giving small hints as to who checks out next. Not being afraid to lose a main character. These and many more are the reasons we love you Master.

The Lot is definately where the Master hits his stride as a writer. This was the 1st SK book I ever read way back when it came out in paperback in the (gulp!) '70's! Been hooked ever since.

Yes this was my first SK books as well - a friend gave me the paperback and I read half of it without stopping one night - actually woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat believing there were vampires in the alley behind my house - knew I had found my writer! Hey, Kingricefan -good to know that someone else has been reading these books as long as I have!!!!

I'm damn near 50, and I've been there since his first book hit the racks...his early works certainly had all the hallmarks of the even more amazing and mature style that would follow...not trying to sound like a fan-boy-but this here Inkslinger feller of ours was a genius from the get go....

This one is one of the few that still sends chills down my spine every time I re-read it.

After the Salem's Lot mini series scared me as a child, this was one of the books I couldn't wait to get my hands on.( scared me again) It seems a re-read may be in order!

Absolutely a precursor to his syle for me. I read 10 or 15 of his books before I read Salem. After I finally did start reading it I saw the similarities in style right away. Of course he has more than one style, but for me theres an underlying one thats always there.

I have read a lot of SK in the past. I just picked him up and I am going to read all the books in order...

I read Carrie and thought it was alright. Then I went onto Salem's Lot and it was like night and day. This is where SK really came into his own.

I'm re-reading it now. I'm a bit over half way through it. I've read it so many times that I'm a little embarrassed about it.

Every time I read it though, I just can't get over how great it is. It's the ultimate horror experience for me.

I lent my copy to a friend. She doesn't read a whole lot of fiction, especially not one of the longer books.
