While I have been collecting the comics, I don't think I'll get this. It looks like they're getting too much into the novel territory now. I'd prefer that they stick the comics to stuff we haven't seen yet*. I don't mean to be negative though. It's good that this series of comics are still being produced.
*I know that the first comic series The Gunslinger Born, covered stuff already mentioned in Wizard and Glass, but it did have quite a bit of other stuff too, including threads that we don't see in the novels (mainly concerning Walter and Farson) and some mythology and folklore stuff, so I felt it worth my while. The rest of the comics concern mainly new stuff.
I chose not to get the Little Sisters comics due to the fact that the story had been published already. I learned since then that there is a whole bunch of background information concerning the origins of the Little Sisters which we haven't yet been privy too! I'll probably buy those at some point.
Well, it's not much so far, but BoT #1 opens in Pricetown, a place only mentioned in the book.
I've really enjoyed the comics so far but have to wait for the collections when they get released on amazon. Decent comic book shops nearby to us are a bit like rocking horse poo.
Can't they get someone else to write the adaptions? I can't stand Peter David, never could. The guy ruined Hulk for, like, ten years or more, and he clearly doesn't know his way around Mid-World.
The comics take all of five minutes to read. Maybe ten if you go with the collections. There's maybe three, four panels per page and hardly any dialogue. Narration boxes are virtually non-existant anymore. The backgrounds rely on computer seperations rather then pen and ink...aw hell, I'll stop. It's obvious ol Muskie hates modern comics. And don't get me started on that shiney paper...
But could you imagine DT comics written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Neal Adams? Now that'd be a goddam comic right there.
Bought the first issue which was good. For some reason they didn't show Roland's blue eyes! Also the scar on Allie's forehead was huge and it covered her left eye which wasn't described like that in the book. Ordered issue 2 waiting on that
I'm a hopeless King Fan-boy...I've got em all...and for the most part, thought they were good-but I like Muskie's idea too...that WOULD rock Ratman!
