    Hi,

In the light of TV like 'True Blood', 'Spartacus' and the 'Sons of Anarchy' that's no longer as true as it used to be.

Particularly Frank Darabont's 'The Walking Dead' vis the gore factor.

    Long days and pleasant nights

The thing that bothers me about AMC is the fact that they'll show "The Walking Dead" which is obviously un-edited, but anything else will be edited. The only time I find myself watching AMC is if an older movie with not much to edit in the first place is on, and "The Walking Dead".
I smell a bit of hypocracy on AMC's part.

what I recall of the tv the Stand, was filled with 'gore', we just couldnt smell it and tv cut the scenes to where you know its gorey but its just not dwelled upon. not my fav but certainly worth watching!

I was thinking about this yesterday. I wasnt aware WB was possibly remaking it.
I have been re-reading The Stand and the series was on yesterday.

It crossed my mind how cheesy a lot of the movie was, effects were horrible, camerawork and quality was bad, some horrific acting.... There were a lot of things done very well, and overall I was/am pleased with the TV series. It looks like they did well on a limited budget.

But a larger budget is needed.

I was thinking trilogy for the bigscreen. However, I dont think you can cut the story into 1/3rds and keep each one stand alone and interesting enough to make any sort of money out of the masses. I dont see it translating well in a trilogy.

The answer is a well-funded 10 part miniseries on HBO or Showtime. That would be the best way to present this as it deserves.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention this.It may work as trilogy and if it doesn't work for the masses at least us hardcore fans will have a 3 part major motion picture of our fav book.

But if they're just going to butcher it, and cut half of the story out and ruin the other half, then no-thanks, I guess I'll stick with Molly lol
Obviously, this would have to be a multi-movie production, released over several years like that Twilight monstrosity. The only difference is the Twilight abomination is being milked to squeeze every dollar out of the gullible teenage-girl audience that laps up every cheesy, Gothic romance that comes down the pike, however ridiculous. We can hope that an extended version of The Stand would be produced to do justice to a profoundly significant story from one of the great writers in the history of American fiction.

Maybe you'll be willing to stick with Molly, but I'd be willing to risk major surgery to see almost anyone else cast as Frannie Goldsmith. God, who did she sleep with to get that part?

I just dont see how a trilogy movie series would make any money at all... nor do the story any service.

You would think to make us happy, it would need a big budget. It would also need to be true to the story.... which I think would be a complete failure with the mainstream. A large budget would just be a donation to fans of The Stand. The Stand has many dedicated fans.... but not nearly enough IMO to fund 3 high budget movies.
If they sped it up a lot and added a lot of phony action and effect... then maybe the story can appeal to the masses.

I really hope common sense and accounting take over and they decide to do this as a series on HBO or Showtime. You would have plenty of time to lay out the story. one or two seasons. In an hour episode, you can really slow it down. The characters can be developed much better as well as their plights travelling across the USA. There would be enough action to appeal to mainstream... and there are plenty of possible cliffhangers in The Stand, which would bridge very nicely from episode to episode.... and a big one before Season 2. Perhaps Mother Abigail disappearing or something like that.

I also believe that this would be best done as a series. There are so many networks now that make amazing quality shows it sometimes seems like a television renaissance. Showtime, HBO, Starz and AMC, any of these could do this book justice. It would allow for the characters to really develop without pulling any punches. Unless they decide to do it as a trilogy, it should be on the small screen.

I might be alone but I think it would make an interesting trilogy but it would have to be done right. Movie 1 is the plague. This one is based on the government plot of project blue, the death and destruction, the military rule, and cover up. Movie 2 would be based on the survivors falling into the two camps and setting up their respective bases. Then Movie 3 would be about The Final Stand.

If they put the time and thought necessary for this movie, I can see an amazing series of films. I'd like to see the characters of Leo/Joe, Nadine, Larry, and others developed more than they were in the miniseries. The special effects today could be spectacular! I also want to see the Kojak that the book described--the amazing Kojak was kind of "meh" in the movie.

And of course, the casting has to be perfect! Too bad that Gary Sinise is probably too old to play Stu again--he was perfect--but he was about the only "perfect" casting in the miniseries. Casting Molly Ringwald (as I have ranted about previously) was a travesty. I also didn't like the way that Rita Blakemore and Nadine were morphed into one character. I thought eliminating Rita's role altogether was a huge mistake as her death was Larry's moral catalyst that changed his worldview and path. I also felt that Joe/Leo's character was so important to Larry's moral development--and that was lost in the miniseries.

I'm such a Stand junkie that I loved the miniseries even though I thought it did not do the book the justice it deserved.

I'm very excited to hear there's a trilogy in the works. Ben Affleck is very talented and I think he could do a good job with this film. If he does it right, it could take him to the next level as a director.
