Default Reading books after The Stand...

I really don't know what to do. I finished The Stand a month ago and I cannot read anything else now. I have tried to read The Dark Tower series...just doesn't click for me. I have tried to get into Salems Lot and IT but it isn't working out. Should I re-read The Stand? I NEED HELP THIS BOOK WAS TOO GOOD.

Have you tried Duma Key, Talisman, Bag of Bones, Under The Dome?

    Hi,

Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!

Hmm, tricky, may I suggest The Talisman, but perhaps you're right and you need to re-read The Stand (I've read it countless times myself).

    Long days and pleasant nights

Re-read! Sometimes the book ends, but you're just not ready to leave it, so just start over! But I must say, if you love The Stand, once you're ready to give DT a real shot, you'll be so glad you did. It's an amazing journey.

The Talisman is another wonderful story that I didn't want to end...happy reading!

yes the talisman would be a great one for you to step into next, like a spare pair of shoes. You still need the support you had with your last pair (Stand), but you might be ready to continue on with support. If not try strapping on some light weight Dreamcatcher-you still got a group support. Have you read IT? Now theres a fine pair of losers!!! yuck yuck yuck! Cant figure out why the DT didnt fix you right up tho....

All good recommendations above for post "The Stand" reads.
I have to admit, I'm rather flummoxed "IT" didn't get it done for you, so this is what I want you to do...
Listen very carefully... don't be such a smartazz, you know what I mean...so, go get yourself a copy of Desperation and finish it (it is so worth the effort, if one could describe reading it accurately as an "effort", that is...but then I feel the same way about "IT"), then try going back to "IT"...I think that will help you slide into it.
"IT" is so definitely worth the effort to stick around til it clicks for you (and it will), but after you've just finished reading 'The Stand", I can dig what your sayin', it's kinda like going from fine fillet to a s'okay sirloin, I mean both indeed tasty, it's just one might require a bit more chewing.
"The Stand", I mean come on, that was like trying to chew warm butter.

Read Penthouse Forum, then you'll know exactly what make-believe is all about...then anything by King will bring you back to OUR reality...

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

First - I don't understand anything in DT-The Gunslinger. It's so random. The Stand has such direct characterization and DT is almost the exact opposite. Should I suffer through the lack of understand in book one and just move on to The Drawing of the Three?

Second - The first book I tried reading after The Stand was IT. Something just didn't feel right.

Here are the options I am currently considering:
    1. Re-read The Stand
    2. Try to understand DT book one and continue the journey
    3. Read IT
    4. Read 'Salems Lot
    5. Read The Talisman
    6. Go out and buy Under the Dome and read it
    7. Go out and buy Desperation and read it

OR maybe I should take a break from Stephen King for a bit and read another book?

    Let me know your thoughts

It seems to me you can't go on until you revisit The Stand so, go back and do it again! I've read it 11 times over the years and have never been bored with it. The characters are so deep and rich, there are depths to them you will never see unless you read it again. I think you would also enjoy The Dead Zone, The Body or The Shawshank Redemption too. Those tend to be more character involved and are not so plot compicated. Great, great stories.

    Hi,

    That would be my advice.

Perhaps you should start with DT2- The Drawing of the Three, and maybe come back to The Gunslinger when you fee like it.

Good luck, it really is the most amazing journey!

    Long days and pleaant nights
