Roland is the reason I wanted to read everything from King. Picked up The Gunslinger at a mall in Rapid City, summer of '06
and the rest, as the saying goes...is history. What did he do with this one? I remember asking myself, looking at the
cover of the paperback...and then I opened it and read that first line. I'd only read It and Dreamcatcher, till then.
And yes...when I got on the plane w/Eddie and Roland...I was grinning too wide to speak. Lucky for me I was at home, out of the public eye.
Subsequent reads...I had different takes on the story...but that seems to be the way it goes for me. First time through is always a blast...for the most
I've rarely put a story down...unread...although I have done that.
I was not too fond of it. When I read "The Drawing.........", a new wonderful world opened up to me. Blown away! I sorta felt that way with Talisman as well. A new world with all kinds of wonders appeal to my childish soul.
I tried to read gunslinger several times. I just couldn't get in to it. An on-line friend from another King fan forum kept harassing me to read it. Would not get off my back. He convinced me to "just read it" so I could get to The Drawing.
Yes, I did say thank you.
I bought it on discount at a local store in 1993. I didn't like it at all, 'that by Stephen King the Stephen King', I thought. After one more volumes I was pretty impressed, though.
You guys did it for me. And I touch my throat 3 times to the Great JD.
Took me a long time to read The Gunslinger, purely because I knew it wasn't the usual style of story I would go for. I had all of the books on my bookshelf for years before I finally delved into them...and I only read them when I wanted to, not because other people told me to! I loved The Gunslinger from the beginning, maybe because I was finally ready to make that journey. I took a break in between the books though, because I couldn't get my head around W&G.
