Default Album inspired by The Shining

Hi everyone, my name is Derek and I'm a new member to the boards. I've been a fan of Stephen King for about 25 years now and I play in a rock/metal band called 237 (also a Kubrick fan). I'm in the process of finishing up an album inspired by The Shining (book and film). It's titled Shine and is due to be released on 2/22/11. Here is the cover artwork and tracklisting:

    Attachment 11053

    1. Darkness Falls
    2. The Bad Thing
    3. Shine
    4. All Work and No Play
    5. No Escape
    6. Scarred
    7. No One Home
    8. Room 237 (instrumental)
    9. Redrum

Just thought I'd share this with fellow King/Shining fans; feel free to PM me for more information. Thanks!

    D

Hmm...perhaps I have time to record a hidden track. Haha.

Just a quick post for those who've inquired (as I'm unable to respond to PMs yet), the album sounds like a cross between Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Prong and KMFDM...if that gives you any idea; a very dark tone (much like The Shining itself). On the surface, the album is a tribute to both Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick (who create such awesome work). However, the lyrics also deal with the idea of a father/husband who is trying to write what he feels is a masterpiece while struggling with his own personal demons (such as addiction) and taking out his anger on those who love him most. Needless to say, while it echoes some of the themes of the book, it's also a bit of personal introspection as I'm a new father writing music while trying to raise a 3-year-old.

For those interested, you can check out samples of my band's previous effort online (available on most music sites). Just do a search on "237 Dead Risen."

    Thanks for the replies.

Sounds very cool, I was into Fear Factory, Prong and KMFDM back in the early 90's and still love that hard stuff every once in a while. Combining that with a Stephen King influenced storyline is a great idea. Make sure you post a reminder here on 02/22/11 so I remember to pick this one up!

I'll certainly post a reminder. I'm currently debating posting the lyrics (as they are actually finished)...not sure, though.

Picked this one up last night, very cool! The guitars and drums are very tight, and the production and sound is excellent. I'd say "Shine" is my favorite track with "Room 237" a close second, but really I've found something to like in all the tracks. This is by no means "easy listening music" but if you like aggressive, dark power grooves with some sweet guitar shredding (not to mention a storyline inspired by SK!), this will be right up your alley. An impressive work!
