Psychopomps

I was wondering if the sparrows in The Dark Half were inspired by the whipper-wills in Lovecraft's The Dunwitch Horror. I know this is common New England folklore and that both men may have drawn on the same inspiration, but King has referenced HPL several times and has written more than one mythos story. I figured there might be a connection.
