Default A tribute to Stephen King... why he doesn't suck...

    Hails!

I'm not Mr. King's biggest fan, but I've enjoyed several of his books. After picking up Under The Dome I was compelled to offer my thanks to him for not stinking up the room, unlike some other veteran authors:

    Enjoy!

I'm sure he's deeply touched by being damned with faint praise...

I just finished reading your blog and I loved it. Witty, sarcastic and funny without being the slightest bit offensive. I have actually bookmarked the site so that I can see what else you come up with. Loved the Diana Gabbaldon (sp?) section.

I had the exact same thought.

(Additionally, made a mental note to self, "Never ask this guy for a recommendation". )

I have been reading the Tower Books and I am currently reading DT #3- The Waste Lands. I was recently in Ely, Nevada for four days for a convention. It was interesting how reading the 'Tower Books' and visiting this part of Nevada merged and gave my reading some actuality, old west, desolate landscapes. I had dinner in the 'Nevada Hotel' and while reading the history of the hotel in the dinner menu, it listed Mr. King as visitor. This was something exciting to learn. (It might be silly, but it was kinda cool thinking, 'Stephen King might have sat in this very booth.') I am enjoying the 'Tower Books' and hope to finish the next four without interruptions. I have read the "The Stand" (years ago) which SK also used Nevada in the plot. For someone who calls Nevada home and who is a fan of Stephen King, it is a nice thought to know that Nevada has inspired two popular SK stories.

Now that you've been to Ely, you might have enjoy your reading experience with Desperation more as well. That's the book he was researching when he stayed in Ely.

Cool blog. I didn't see you damning him with faint praise (other than the title), I see you pretty squarely saying that he's the only successful fantasy writer left that's not cynically cranking out formulaic drivel.

I would say he's not as alone as you might think. Have you read Neil Gaiman? Robert McCammon?

Agreed. The state of Michael Marshall Smith right now is enough to make a grown man cry.
