    I saw an episode of House M.D. where there was an amputee with massive pain in his phantom limb. House put his good armin a box with a mirror so the guy could see the appearance of having both arms again, and then the pain suddenly stopped. Wonder if this is something doctors have tried with success before? Edgar would have liked to use that trick.

    I'm reading the novel right now and I just read a scene where he says he covered his eyes with both his hands, but then he remembers one has been amputated.
