Default Very minor error in Duma Key? "hands clenched in his lap"

I could have sworn I posted this a couple years ago, so forgive me if this looks familiar, but I couldn't find it.

In Duma Key, there's a scene where the protagonist sits with his hands (plural) clenched in his lap. This is after the accident, however, he has only one hand.

I can't say where exactly this is, since I listened to the audio version. I do recall verifying that this was how it was written in the non-audio book, though.

    Anybody else catch that?

There were a few spots where he had both arms.

Yup, I noticed this but always put it down to "Phantom Limb Syndrome" on Edgar's part.

Amputees often get that obnoxious "phantom limb" syndrome.

I imagine that it can drive readers of fiction nutty.

I lost both hands in a dream and I was reading the True Finale of DT 10 (also in the dream) and found that I couldn't turn the page at an exciting moment. I sat there, elbowing the button in my hospital bed. I heard the chime, chime, chime. Every time. No one came. No friend Iolas, and nary a nurse.

So I cradled the book with my nubs and tongued the page to turn to page 1408...the conclusion.

And then I found myself with hands and arms intact. But the book was gone.

I never got to finish it.

Heh, wish I'd thought of that..

I actually found the section on Google Books:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=EzJ...page&q&f=false

Page 37, if the link isn't working.

"I realized I'd been sitting bolt upright, my hands clenched in my lap."

It's clearly after the accident, since he's trying to get through a mind stutter, so it's not one of the bits where he has two arms.

Well I don't know about that John, as personally, I found it to be just a tad disarming myself.

Interesting, was that really a dream as it would make a good story?

In the dream (?) were you more disappointed at losing your arms, or getting them back and never reading the true ending of the story?

You know, I've nursed people with phantom limb syndrome and it's not nice, especially when they have a pain or an itch and can't find any relief for it.

No, it wasn't a dream...just made it up, but a similar scenario is going to be in 'The Green Desert.'

Probably something subconscious about wanting more DT and not being able to finish some of my own writing projects.
