Just finishing the third book a few minutes ago, I decided I'd come on and give my thoughts on it and continue with each one that I read.
Going back, I picked up the Gunslinger about six months ago and sat down on break at work and tried to read it. I've always been a King fan, but hadn't read THAT many books by him. But since I was young, The Stand has always been tied with Anna Karenina as my favorite books. Anyway...
My first attempt at the Gunslinger didn't work out. I read only about thirty pages or so and then just never picked it back up. It wasn't bad, I just had trouble getting into it. So a couple months later I picked it back up and told myself I'd finish it. Then decide if I should keep going...as you can guess, I kept going.
Althought the first book is a little different, I was so intrigued to find out what would happen when he would catch the man in black. And honestly, I didnt expect it to happen in the first book. I went in thinking the Man in Black was the end-all, be-all bad guy of the entire story. Once Roland caught up to him, I was hooked for six more books. I loved the end.
Onto book II, The Drawing of the Three. Loved it. One of my favorite books. His awkward and confused interactions with "our world" were fantastic and so well-written. I laughed so many times from Tooter-fish to the pepsi. Great, great book.
Book III. The Waste Lands.
Started out a little slow for me. Not bad, just a little slow. But once it got going, it really got going. Leading up to the drawing of Jake was so intense, I loved it. Same with the scenes with Tick-Tock. And of course...the ageless strangers return. Probably my favorite scene in the book (closely followed by Roland showing he's a seriously bad-man and standing up to Blaine).
I'm excited to read the next one, and look forward to posting my reaction when I finish.
