I just read on Digital Spy.com that Universal is re-making Firestarter. No news on casting or anything like that just yet. Can I get confirmation? Thanks, Ms. Mod.

Sorry, no idea. We aren't involved with any remakes or sequels because at that point, Steve doesn't usually own the film rights.
Once again...Hollyweird jumps on the Nostalgia Train...are the writers THAT fresh out of ideas, we have to keep reworking old ideas?...and it makes me shudder, that Uncle Stevie has no "say so" in it...I understand that us "Boomers" like to relive our youth from time to time-but come on, give the remakes a rest already!!!
To be fair, the original Firestarter was a pretty poorly-made movie. I loved the casting, the story is one of my favorite King stories and was probably the first King novel I read, but the movie . . .
I used to watch it constantly when I was younger, I mean I really do love the movie despite it all, but there are glaring mistakes that, once seen, can't be unseen, and really reveal how shabby the production was, from Barrymore peeking out of "sleeping" eyes in the cab on the way to the airport, to smoke visibly rising from BENEATH the table with the wood chips on it at the Shop compound. It was just a badly made movie and, if done right, I would love to see a remake.
I would definitely be interested in watching a remake of this movie.
I agree the original wasn't all that great and could be improved upon, especially with all the (special?) effects available now.
Wasn't crazy about the original. It almost reminded me of Carrie in the sense that it has to do about a girl with a special power. I'll have to read the book one day. Book's just have a way of being better, it seems.
