    Default Breakers

I am currently reading Black House and have noticed there are a lot of DT cross overs. I haven't read DT but from talking to friends and reading the message board I have managed to figure out the meaning behind most of the cross overs. The one that still have me confused is the reference to Breakers. Could someone please provide me with some insight? Thanks!

I pulled out Robin Furth's Concordance to see if there was an easy way to do this but the entry for Breakers takes nearly two pages. I won't repeat all of it here and it may still not make sense without having the Dark Tower knowledge, but here goes--paraphrased:

The breakers are both the prisoners and the servants of the Crimson King. They are (forced) to use their psychic abilities to weaken the Beams, which hold the Dark Tower in place.

Thanks Ms Mod! Not sure how they fit into Black House yet as they have only been mentioned in passing so far. Guess I really have to get my butt in gear and start the DT series.

Breakers reverse the Big Bang once they 'break' enough spokes on the Big Old Wagon Wheel of Reality.

In other words, they are shooting for the Big Crunch.

JBJ...you'll truly appreciate how they work into the story, as they did in Hearts In Atlantis and other "nods" through other "scribblings"...

My big question about the Breakers is Parkus said there were Gunslingers in Midworld, so BH takes place during DTS. So how did the Crimson King recapture all the breakers that Jack freed before the Tet of 19 destroyed the Devar-toi and why wasn't it mentioned?

Hmm, I really don't know for definite but perhaps they were "gunslingers" from another time in Rolands journey, and not the same Ka~Tet we were reading about in Roland's present quest for the Tower. I think that's plausible, since we do know this wasn't Roland's first rodeo.

Weren't the ones Jack freed the Breakers JV, the ones that didn't quite make the Breakers team but went on to work at the Big Combination?

I'm not a DT expert, but I'd think the Crimson King didn't recapture the breakers that Jack freed as much as he replaced them with others, similar to how any vital worker at any job is replaced if he dies, gets fired, etc.
