I have to echo the same sentiments, that I struggled at the beginning to get into this book. The first person narration, slang, lack of chapter breaks, and the slowness of the initial story all led to me debating whether to stop or not...in the end I ploughed on, and the story just got better and better. The characters came alive, the story expanded into areas you may not have expected, and I read the final 100 pages in one sitting! Dolores found her voice, to perfection, in this book....

First SK book I ever read, and absolutely adored it. A book I cherish now.

Loved it from the first line actually.

I loved this book. I thought the story was great and I was really into the way that it was written. It made me get into it a lot more than I think I normally would have with Delores telling the story verbally vs. writing it as some of King's other books have had it. This is definitely one that I will re-read.

This book was SO different from the 10 others i've read and i love the change. I feel the urge to read his other women power stories like rose madder and gerelds game now. This book was really amazing!

Well that's another notch in my SK belt and what a notch!

The depth of characterization has always been a strength of Sai King but this was above and beyond anything I've read before.

I keep wondering about the little girl looking under the bed and seeing Dolores. Is that a link to another work?

Yes, although not a huge one--it's connected to Gerald's Game and Jessie Burlingame.

People who think of King as only a horror writer should read this book. The characters and the stories within stories are spellbinding. This could be real life at it's best, and worse??? One of my favorites.
