    It could be a cross-reference, regardless of when either were written.

    He also did this in The Tommyknockers when the two teens are driving back to Haven and the boy sees a clown(coming up from a manhole..If I'm remembering that correctly). I love it when he cross-references.
    Max Brooks did that too, and it's almost like a little inside joke between devoted fans and the author. To me, anyway.

    Oh I forgot all about that in the Tommyknockers. I read IT after Tommyknockers so maybe that's why. Interesting...
