in doing a little research on the role of Trisha's walkman in The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon, I ran across the fact that Abner Doubleday (the inventor of baseball) was also a spiritualist and active within the theosophist movement. Do you think that Stephen King had this fact at all in mind when deciding on the prominent role that baseball would play in how Trisha maintains a tenuous contact with civilization while lost in the woods ...?

That's a great tidbit Wendi, never had heard that about AD....hard to tell if SK had that rattling around in his cortex, but I DO know he's a "poifictily hyooge" Boston Red Sox fan which allowed a melding of favorites-baseball and storytelling....(welcome to our literary(and sometimes literate)gang)
