Carrrie was my first King book, the one that got me hooked. It's much better than the movie, give a try. Also The Stand, Insomnia and Salems Lot. I would also highly recommend The Long Walk.

I just finished Carrie. I would say a very good book. Some structural flaws which King refines early on in his career IMO. Overall, a nice, easy read. I haven't seen the movie, but know the gist of the story, I wasn't overly excited about reading this book, but I was pleasantly surprised.

It's definately worth buying next. You may be surprised on how much more you enjoy it than the movie. As others have said don't judge a King book by the movie. The books are way better.
