Default The Gunslinger: The Journey Begins

    Is this being discussed elsewhere?
Surprised there isn't any talk considering this 5 part series wrapped up a little while back.
I have mixed feelings about this one. I really liked the art, was grittier then the previous 30 issues, and I especially like the reimagining of the Slow Mutants, instead of looking like bridge trolls they're all randomly mutated freaks which seems closer to Sai Kings descriptions.
Not sure what Robin Furth is thinking though, she seems to be mixing and matching the continuity. I was quite sure the Little Sisters of Eluria episode took place before the Roland ran into Brown and Zoltan.
I also dislike how she liberally speaks of much later volumes in the saga in her letters at the end of each comic.
I thought the point of the series was to fully continuity, flesh it out, and add in to the blanks, not scramble existing stories.

I haven't picked this one up yet but I'm hoping to get it for my birthday next week! I don't have a problem with the chronology being changed as long as the characters and story remain fundamentally the same. I agree that they should flesh things out and fill in the blanks, though.

I guess I just need to leave things as Sai King himself states, regardless of the quality of these translations into other mediums, there will always be the source to go back to.
Can't take that away, but as a fan you always want the "perfect" adaptations, and it's disconcerting when things come short.
In any case I liked how they added the ghost of [SPOILER]Hax and a sad Billy-Bumbler story.[SPOILER] Firth plays up the tradgedy of the mans life nicely and I can't wait to see how they approach the Little Sisters of Eluria. Oh and this current arc is thankfully a bit more bloody then the last.

Well just like the plague you've named yourself after-you certainly ravaged the series! It does have it's share of shortcomings-but I applaud the effort to even attempt it...instead of dogging it, accept it for what it is-other glimpses into our favorite worlds-not the "globe of continuity and perfection"...Ms. Furth is doing yeoman's duty with these story-arcs, how about a little thanks and less abuse?

The graphic novels haven't followed the Dark Tower Series exactly, but Robin Furth gives some good reasons why certain things were changed, or added. I've been satisfied with the graphic novels, and I look forward to The Little Sisters of Eluria. I'm curious to see how the 'sisters' are depicted in the comics.

Apologies if I was harsh, I actually do enjoy the series, spent over 100 dollars so far on it. Like many I'm more apt to elucidate the negative rather then the positive, plus my glass is half empty wouldn't ya know it.
I enjoy the art, I do enjoy the stories, the additions to the established mythos, I just wish it held truer to the source... It's no Lawnmower Man to be sure, just has had some inconsistencies.
Seems I am doing more then most here in actually paying and supporting the series, as most would turn a blind eye to it for not being directly created by Sai King himself, am I right?

    Hi,

No, you're quite wrong in Robin Furth's case.

Since she first worked with him on the first volume of the Concordances her knowledge of DT, her integrity and her literary ability have never been in question, she's the Frank Darabont of DT, if I can make a comparison, and no-one could hold the original in higher regard or be closer to the wishes of 'le grand fromage'.

And I've had the good fortune to discuss DT over dinner with Robin (& Marsha).

    Long days and pleasant nights

Not that Robin's credentials need to be validated as a DT expert, but Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman personally requested her to be on the development team for the movies and TV series. Whenever changes are made or new elements are added, she always checks with Steve first to make sure he is okay with them.
