The Body - Possible Continuity Error?

Forgive me if I'm wrong (it's been a while since I've read it) or I'm mixing up The Body with Stand By Me.
Now if memory serves correctly (which it may not!) The Body takes place in the early sixties but I'm 'sure' I remember a reference to the dog Cujo (which was set in the early eighties) which couldn't be possible... Am I wrong?!

One is just the film version of the other of course...but in The Body, Cujo is mentioned as a reference to a time.

No, in the Summer of 1960...don't confuse the publication dates with story dates...

If I remember correctly, it was a passing reference to Milo Pressman's dog, Chopper -- who was the meanest dog around, until Joe Camber's dog, Cujo, went rabid 20 years later.

Something like that.

My copy of Different Seasons is right here handy, which is odd because most of my books are downstairs, but yay for all of us! With only a little flipping I found this on page 333...

But these dogs never attacked Milo Pressman, the dump-keeper, because Milo was never without Chopper at his heel. Chopper was-at least until Joe Camber's dog Cujo went rabid twenty years later-the most feared and least seen dog in Castle Rock.
