He wants to read Poe but the language is too challenging. Stephen would be good but I want short stories that I can legally copy.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!
I don't know what you mean by 'legally copy' but the collections Night Shift and Skeleton Crew are highly recommended!
Long days and pleasant nights
Library! Or... http://amzn.to/9SaThi -- this is for Skeleton Crew. Tons of used copies as cheap as a penny + shipping.
Or drop by a used bookstore. There are always some King books floating around.
Just love king.Lots of short stories.
Don't copy anything...a library card is a powerful tool, use it and I would suggest The Talisman, Jack's age is not terribly dissimilar to your son's...
Not my child, my student.
Thanks to bobledrew. I will grab a couple cheap used ones.
The beauty of copies that I copy from the internet is that I can format the text for space for notes and add definitions in italics for words like sanctimonious which appears in "Survivor Type".
It would be awfully helpful if you can tell me the names of short stories that will not creep me out too much but satisfy him. "Survivor Type" is a bit nauseating for me...eeewwww.
It's not QUITE the same thing, but I would suggest anthologies drawn from the magazine Fantasy And Science Fiction. (Best Of F&SF, by year, stretching back to sometime in the 50's.) Occasional horror stories, nothing too severe, nothing likely to disturb a parent, no matter how conservative... Richard Matheson is another good choice for your special needs student.
Thanks for caring.
We all float down here.
I would recommend "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" or "The Eyes of the Dragon."
Both great reads, but maybe being a boy he would prefer "Dragon" as he could possibly imagine himself in the scenarios he is reading about.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide.![]()
Apologies, parentage wasn't specified, I thought it was implied...my opinion stands though...Not my child, my student.
