Default Two thirds of the way through...

and I'm not looking for an explanation here ,but there is a chapter earlier in the book when a lightening rod salesman walks into a bar ,he introduces himself etc tries half heartedly to sell the owner his wares and then realises he's not going to succeed Is this bit ever explained ?
    Thanks in advance.

There is nothing random in the story.

    Everythinhg fits together.

Incidentally, there is currently a discussion group for this very book going on in the "social groups" section of the board, under "Chronological Read," if you're interested in that kind of thing.

The Kid is right on! Join us...and yeah, I felt the same way the first time I cracked the spine on that novel-I was like, "that was random as hell!"...

Not really random...it was foreshadowing the event to come. He was basically if only the bar owner had bought the lightening rod the fire could have been prevented.

Yeah luv, I understand foreshadowing and knew at the time he was leading up to something...it still felt random, because for me-it seemed to take an inordinate amount of pages to get to the pulling of the trigger "A-ha!" moment...

Thanks , I have been driven a bit mad by that particular bit,you know re-reading that chapter to see if I'd missed anything and thumbing ahead (slapped wrists naughty me) ,so now I'm just going to let it happen ! I have joined the group,I don't post a lot but I love reading what others have to say. . . strange world isn't it ?

I am also very close to finishing it, but personally I have not felt confused by it or think it's random. In fact personally it has so far been one of the most enjoyable reads, perhaps in the top two cannot wait to finish the book :d

    Hi,

    Aye.

I believe it was Sai King's own personal favourite until Lisey's Story.

I'd love to see the movie again, I haven't seen it for years and that was with an...um....'altered consciousness'.

    Long days and pleasant nights

Saw the movie last night. I've got a mixed reaction from it tbh. I might be on my here when I saw that Christopher Walken was totally the wrong choice for Johnny. Herb and Vera seemed a bit too old, but the actress who played Vera was good I thought... although they left out her religious mania stuff, only hinted at it. In fact they left out a lot of cool stuff that made the book so great. one plus though is for the actor who played Greg Stillson - spot on! imo.

All accounted for I'd love to see this remade for the modern day audience with more content from the book
