Who Had the Better Performance Piper Laurie or Sissy Spacek?

Hello All,

I thought Carrie was an excellent movie with a great cast. Though the whole cast worked perfectly together, two performances stand out 2 me, Sissy Spacek( Carrie) and Piper Laurie( Carrie's Mom). They were both great in their roles; but Piper Laurie was so believeable as this wack job. I don't know if she was always in character or if she knew some1 like her character; but In a way she scared me more than Carrie. I believe she cared 4 her daughter; but her parenting skills were pure HELL. Tell me what U think, why U think Spacek or Laurie had the better performance. I look 4ward 2 reading Ur replies, thank U all.

I think that Piper Laurie did a better job at playing Carrie's mom then Sissy Spacek pllaying Carrie. Some could say it's easy to play a psychopath, but to act like a true psychopath is a far harder thing to do. Piper Laurie was excellent. Sissy Spacek played Carrie very well, but for some reason I think that it's easier to play the victim.

I have to go with Piper...she had less screen time due to her daughter induced demise, but she without a doubt made the most of it...

So far U all U have agreed with me; that Piper had the better performance? I agree with U Silhouette86, 4 some reason Sissy Spacek, Carrie White, had the easier part. No doubt about it, she did a great job; but Piper Laurie was incredible. Everytime she appeared on screen I got creeped out; her look, actions; and demeanor said it all- she was 1 wicked lady in that film? I wonder if she received an oscar or nomination 4 her role?

You're wondering if they recieved an oscar. Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie were nominees, but If i remember correctly they didn't win. It's too bad. In my opinion, they definetely deserved the oscars. I saw the movie that won. I just thought Carrie was better

I think Sissy did the best but i love the final scence in the TV movie!!! Where Carrie blows up the whole town!!! XD It's AWESOME!!!

It's also really hard to say which is the easier part to play. Anyone can act like a Psychopath. I can even act like that. I'm not even a psychopath irl. It can be hard to pretend that you hate your own daughter. However, Carrie probably was harder to play because when you really think about it Sissy Spacek had more screentime the Piper Laurie. Also, you have to act harmless in the first hour and 10 minutes then you have to act like a crazy person seeking vengeance on people who supposedly hate you. Which I don't think I could even act like that myself. So it's harder to say who had the harder role to play, but in my opinion Carrie won me over here.

To me, comparing Sissiy Spacek and Piper Laurie's performances are like comparing apples and oranges. They both played excellent roles, but the roles are so different. To me when Sissy Spacek plays in something I cannot she her other than Carrie

Sissy Spacek as Carrie was my favorite. I actually saw Sissy once in another movie and start immediately to think about Carrie. She was scary in her role as Carrie. And I especially like the ending.
