I thought the dark ending of the novella version of Apt Pupil far superior than the unresolved ending of the movie version.
Anyone with me?

C'mon ya dog-faces...no guts-no glory.....Yahooo!!!!!......sorry, channeled Sgt. Rock there for a second...I agree-book good, movie...not so much...
wholeheartedly
I havent seen the movie, but if its like many of the other SK adaptations to film, the book is better. In fact, going in blind on this one, book better than movie.
The book is def. better than the movie (big surprise right ?) but I liked the movie alot, I thought Brad Renfro and Ian McClellan were good choices .
The novella was fantastic... however, I really enjoyed the movie too. The acting was great, the direction was good. The screenplay was great too, at some points I had a huge grin on my face because I was glad they used a lot of the actual lines from the novella... which is how it should be done.... well in my opinion.
In a way, ?I'm glad they changed the ending, but it would have been nice to have the original ending from the novella as a bonus feature on a DVD or Blu-ray.
During the ending of the book Mr. King really "drove home" a significant concept of the story but not in the movie.I don't know why.
The ending of the novella was very gut wrenching to me while the movie ending was watered down so much it looked like the PC police took it and made it almost unrecognizable.
Ms.Mod,thanks for the explanation. He didn't write the screenplay and Bryan Singer had a different vision of what the ending should look like in spite of discussions to attempt to dissuade him.But I must say Mr.King's ending was,by far, superior.
