Default Haven/ HBO's Carnivale: Just me or does anyone else see similarities?

(I've never done this message board thing, and I'm feeling massively clueless.)

I'm a huge fan of Haven. I was a huge fan of HBO's Carnivale. I was furious when they unceremoniously pulled the plug on it. I still haven't forgiven them.

Haven's opening music reminds me of Carnivale's opening music. The actress who plays Audrey is eerily similar to Carnivale's Sophie. The whole Minister of Evil motif is in both stories.

Has this been discussed on this message board? If so, could someone kindly direct me it?

I'm looking forward to any info anyone can toss my way. Thanks. I'll hang up and listen to your answers.

That something on television is "eerily similar" to something (everything?) else on television isn't particularly surprising.

Now . . . if you were to find something that was actually groundbreakingly original . . .

Now that would be a discussion topic.

    so cynical. ouch.

regarding my statement of "eery similarity" i think that the two actresses playing the characters Audrey and Sophie do not have typical cookie cutter tv faces.

and regarding original tv, well even the bible recognized that there was nothing new under the sun. that was old testament, so that's a 3000 year old notion. everything is just variations on a theme. tell me i'm wrong.

I haven't seen Carnivale yet, but it's in my Netflix que. I know I'll like it, I've heard a lot of interesting things about it.
I have seen Haven though, I've watched every show and looking forward to season 2.
Has anyone noticed all the little nods to other King work in Haven? Totally love that.

I might get a jab or two for saying so, but I think Lucas Bryant looks a little Rolandy around the edges.

I have seen every episode of Haven and I enjoy the show very much. And I have noticed a number of SK nods, and I always get a kick out of them. I especially like Emily Rose and Eric Balfour. The season finale was great. Can't wait for the next season.

    You'll love Carnivale. It's brilliant!!

I think I only remember SK references in the last episode; I think I counted two. But honestly for the life of me, I can't remember what they were! (so embarrassing, my brain is just fried tonight!). Please remind me what they were . . . and all of the others for that matter.

This is also completely embarrassing but I'm not really all that familiar with most of SK's work. I probably shouldn't admit that here . . . but I don't want to come off as a fraud. The only thing I've read until recently was the Green Mile. I just finished The Colorado Kid, I felt that I had to at least read that! And I really enjoyed it. I loved the way the story was more than just a mystery about the dead body on the beach. It was more importantly about what a story is. I thought that was really refreshing! And very post-modern. The critics were not particularly pleased with the CK and it did start out a little slowly. I wasn't sure where it was going to go, but I was pleasantly surprised with where it did go!

Roland is the "star" of the Dark Tower . . . is that correct? Has that become a movie/tv show? Do you think I should read that next? Is that a good place to start? Or should read some others first?? Honestly, things like Carrie or The Shining are just too scary. I'm a total weenie when it comes to scary stuff. That's why I haven't read SK. Although The Dead Zone is one of my all times favorites.

Thanks for adding to this thread! I appreciate it!

YES . . . the season finale was great. I haven't gotten this excited over a television program in quite a while. (I was sort of disappointed with the last season of Lost.)

Did you suspect that Audrey was Lucy??? I thought she might be, but I got goosebumps when she looked at the bottom of her feet and saw that scar!! It was awesome. And the way that tatoo appeared momentarily on the new medical examiner. Very nice touch. That gave me goosebumps too! I was very sad to see her mother (the medical examiner) die. I really liked her.

I can't wait for the next season either. I hope they're able to keep it interesting. I've got my fingers crossed.

Thanks for posting to this thread. I really appreciate it.

Shawshank was the prison that the stranger on the beach had just gotten out of, right? Help me what were the other SK references???
