    Default amazing film

Just finished watching Christine for what must be the millionth time. Oooft what a film!
It was the second SK novel I ever read, and begged for the film immediately after. I don't think I have any complaints about it - even the music's brilliant.
Now please excuse me, I have some people to annoy by singing "b-b-b-bad to the booone" constantly

I like Christine quite a lot, despite the radical departures from the source material (a generally necessary evil in film adaptations). If there's one thing in the film that bothers me, it's the immediate transformation of Arnie Cunningham. What I love most about the book is how you get to follow Arnie's slow metamorphosis from a hopeless geek to a confident, even belligerent motorvator.

In the movie, he buys the car, barks at his parents and wakes up the next day as Arthur Fonzarelli ( or . . . you know . . . whomever).

But by and large I think Carpenter did a good job.

As a Mopar guy, I weep at the amount of Fury's that gave their life in the making of that film...

I have read the book a couple of times and watched the movie several times. Fell in love with it. What a car!

Christine is a good novel but as a film it's one of the worst Stephen King adaptions. It was the last film of a three book deal. I believe the other two films were Firestarter and Cujo. I thought the actor who played Arnie was good, but the film was an obvious rush job. When this film came out, articles began to appear questioning Stephen King movie adaptions. Why was it so hard to transfer King's work to film? I am NOT a fan of Stephen King film adaptions. I cringe every time I hear about some "treasured" King work being put on the big screen. For over a decade I refused to view the TV mini-series The Stand because I knew it would only disappoint. I love the novel (both versions) and I didn't want my mental image of these characters ruined by some cheesy TV actor. Just as it happened with The Shining. Jack Nicholson has become Jack Torrance every time I read this book now.

I love Christine. Love the score, love the tone, love the effects, love the look, love the 40-year-old dude with the awesome hair who's playing a high-schooler. As an adaptation of the novel it's not that great; but taken on its own, it's a lot of fun.
