I suppose it's kind of sad, but it also lends a realistic touch -- odd, considering it's a story about things that don't exist -- to the story. It's no fun when you know going in that good always triumphs and all the good guys will survive.
Of course, from a predictability standpoint, the slutty girls always get killed in horror stories (well . . . in the movies, at any rate), so maybe Mr. King was warning us to keep our pants on at least until the second date.

Susan wasn't a slut.
Uncle Stevies writing mirrors the stark realities of our daily lives-good people die and sometimes evil wins-unlike a re-run of the original Star Trek where if there was a character you didn't recognize on a landing party-guess who's gonna end up gettin' vaporized-all too predictable...his writing pulls the rug right from under ya more times than not...
I felt my heart break;
Do you have to put a spoiler tag if the title says spoilers??
hahahahhaha! thanks.
Wow, I don't recall Susan Norton dying...I guess that's yet another clue that I need to go and re-read every Sai King title, right?
