humes, La chanson de Roland

I found a copy of La Chanson de Roland in my flat in the cleanup after the recent earthquake, and thought I'd better read it. I found the word "hume" used in the Old French and thought that this is the word used in Wolves of the Calla in opposition to robot.

Eg:
'Cunsuleilez mei cume mi savie hume', line20 "Advise me how, my wise men"

Has sai King read La Chanson de Roland? In the original Old French? (I don't have a copy of the Concordance, so I can't access that, unfortunately.)
