    Hi all,

It's been a while since my last 'news bulletin' or what ever you want to call them, and I apologise for that, it's just this past week I have been incredibly busy. Right now, I would love to put up some photos, but unfortunately, through no fault of my own, there has been a slight hiccup (hows that for shifting the blame eii, but really... not my fault haha). However, it will be rectified by Saturday, and because you have all been waiting so long I will also post a snippet of the 'almost final draft' of the film script too.

Now it's time to come clean a little bit (please don't hate me) ....

... As you all know, in the original short story The Billing's family have Lester, Rita and their 3 kids (eldest about 2, youngest almost 1 and a 1/2 years old) Now I know he (King) did this for dramatic effect (the 'disposal' of them) but I have made some changes... for two reasons:
1st... It is surprisingly hard to find willing parents to let you film their children in a death scene with The Boogeyman
2nd... I honestly did not feel wholly comfortable to show children of that young 'being taken care of... permanently'.... again I know why he (King) did this

So, my solution was this (again, please don't hate me, as I have done it with the very best intentions in mind)

the eldest child is now 11 and the youngest is 9. Now I know what you are possibly thinking straight away 'how is gonna make the deaths look accidental AND realistic' ... well fear not as I have the answer for you right now... RESEARCH! and lots of it!!! I research deaths that seemed accidental in kids between the age of 9 and 11, and of course because they are from real research, that also make it realistic.

So I hope I have sold you on one of my very few slight redirections, and I hope you will enjoy the cast photos and sample of the script which will be put up here on MONDAY.

Thanks again, and as always post your comments here and let me know what you think

    Seb

    Hi,

Yeah, the age shift for what seems very practical reasons sounds valid to me.

    Long days and pleasant nights

Can we get Ms Mod to pull some strings and have this Dollar Baby movie shown on the SKMB? We can call it SkMB movie festival.

Sorry, no, it would be a violation of the rules for having a dollar baby option. Once you start making exceptions, it gets to be a problem with saying yes to one and no to another.

    Hi,

    Firstly, I completely accept that.

But the world has moved on a lot since these rules were put in place and I'd like to offer a suggestion.

Now, all of us would like to see the dollar babies but travelling to a film festival physically on the other side of the world is not practically feasible.

Would it be possible for a legitimate web-based film festival to be organised, on a weekend say, with admission perhaps in the form of a donation to the Haven foundation?

That way the fans would get to see them AND the Haven foundation would benefit, seems like a win-win situation to me.

    Just an idea.

    Long days and pleasant nights

Pee Ess - Would it infringe the 'no public performance' aspect of the dollar babies by being for charity? All legitimate film festivals charge for admittance.

"Everything's Eventual" by JP Scott was 78 minutes.

Modesty forbids me pointing you to an interview with him on The Kingcast episode 5.

Or you could just organize a KingCon in your home town and invite the filmmaker to come and do a screening.

A festival was tried here (not by us) for a couple of years but did not do well at all. I don't know if the reason for that was lack of interest or lack of promotion.

The reason the 2 minute clip policy was put into place was because his attorney and film agent have concerns about internet or DVD distribution affecting Steve's future commercial rights. They're not even that happy about the 2 minute allowance that Steve came up with as a compromise. Doing it as a fundraiser for charity wouldn't be the issue as that would not be a "for profit" venture; it's totally about not making them available to so large an audience that producers could claim that they would be buying "remake" rights. I will not make any comments about my personal opinion of the validity of that argument--'nuff said just by saying that.
