George Stark just scared the heck out of me and I never had any sympathy for him.

I just remember reading this for the first time when I was 13 and thinking that George Stark was the coolest name for a bad guy ever. My first very pseudonym had the first name George because of it. George Murphy wrote the sordid tales I didn't want to put my name on in junior high in case they ended up in a teacher's hands. I wouldn't say I rooted for Stark so much as I dug the trappings of Stark more than those of Thad. It was cooler to write longhand with Black Beauties than it was to work on a word processor, and his car, clothes, and attitude were all cooler. The coolest thing Thad had going was the sparrows. Man, that's super cool too. "The sparrows are flying again." The Dark Half is a very underrated book in the King canon.
