    Default Sequel to Salem's Lot

    Dear Stephen King,

I hope you are reading this. I know you don't like sequels, but i feel that you should write a sequel to 'Salem's Lot. It was never explained what happened at the end of 'Salem's Lot, we're left hanging at the end of the book. I know you touched on this briefly in "One for the Road", but we really don't know what happens. I would like to see what happens to Ben Mears, do he and the boy make it out alive? What happens to the rest of the vampires? Theres just so much that I feel readers including myself would like to see.

Don't have my copy here with me, but I'm thinking that the prolouge said that they were in Mexico? Don't think it mentioned them by name though, just talking about a man and a boy, maybe I just assumed it was them.
I would love a sequel also, I want sequels to all SK novels though so I may not be the best one to vote one the issue.

Put a stake in the heart of that idea-sometimes the dead Undead have to stay dead, and our best loved characters in "limbo"...

Yes I too would love a sequel to this my first SK book the one that got me hooked however at this stage of the game maybe a sequel is not the best idea sometimes we have to let sleeping vampires lie.

I feel that if you haven't already you should read The Dark Tower Series. I really don't want to say any more but I don't think you'll be disappointed

ooo, yuk.....can't say i can agree with that.....not the part about reading the d.t. series - go for it, the first four are excellent, i cannot recommend them higher than to say each is amongst his absolute best....the last three, & i'm probably in the minority on this one, are not up to spec...

nonetheless, if you LOVE the vampires and the style of storytelling in 's.l.', you WILL be disappointed by the last three books: king massacres his own omnipotent evil with those 3 books and makes the vamps ( and others...) a shallow threat at best.

oops..having said that...it's fairly common knowledge that he's toyed with the idea in the past, but, i believe has also said that he has nothing more to say, after dt5/6/7, on the issue...

too bad, a 'real' follow up would be the single most appreciated treasure he could bestow upon my soul...

until his next great book arrives: which should be about 2-3 weeks...

I think you need to revisit your thought here. Ben and Mark are not gunslingers, cowpoke. And how really think about how vampires like Barlow are involved in the DT series.

    revisit...? nope.
pagantallie mentioned the d.t. series...and vamps do return...and there are other aspects that tie it all in...none of which i will talk about...you'd have to read it for yourself.

but, s.l. was written well before king seriously began to tie all his bootstrings together...
and the 'horror movie' vampires of the 'lot' are not dealt with on that level, nor are ben and mark, in the d.t. books...it is NOT a sequel, just a sideline...and if what you are looking for is more of the same (that is the query of the thread, right ?), you will not find that in any of the d.t. books: i stand by my thought.

    Hi,

Hmm, I think we're in danger of splitting heirs here.

As Father Callahan and the events in his life and his experiences with vampires is very much part of DT5 etc then they certainly can be called follow-ups, though perhaps not in the senses that the original poster meant.

However, to discuss that in greater detail would require a lot of DT spoilers, wouldn't it?

    Long days and pleasant nights
