Revisit: One for the Road

If you look at King and his ability to spin a well crafted tale of horror then One for the road should be in your must read. Being new to the message board and seeing that One for the Road hasn't been visited in a few years it's time we spark that interest in it again. Being an avid fan of Salem's Lot, One for the Road is the true sequel that we have from King himself. The film a Return to Salem's Lot by the Cohen Brothers in the Late 80's is not the sequel that we fans desired, as it had no King involvement. Until King puts new life into his world of Vampires that came from Salem's Lot, then we must respectfully accept One for the Road as it. I read it straight through and immediately re-read it as it was that enlightening. Why is it that when one is warned not to go somewhere they usually do and then the horror begins. How awesome is that. The winter storm, the two men in the pub that go looking for the family in the stranded car. The intensity of the build up to the confrontation. The final warning to stay away from the Lot... If you haven't read it then please do. You will see why we devoted fans praise it so much. Night Flyer was a great concept, as Kings thrid entry in the Vampire mythology, but One for the Road is just as much of a classic as Salem's Lot and needs to be made into a movie for more to enjoy...

I agree. Salem's Lot is also one of my favorite Stephen King short stories. Who can forget when Stephen King conjures an image in your mind of the cold, desolate snowy night by describing the wind seemingly saying it would have them (the wife and daughter who got out of the stranded car) just as neat and frozen as two strawberries in a deepfreeze...
