I think there is wayyyyy too much "stuff" talked about before you get any answers...(which i haven't, yet)...but i'm hoping to learn exactly what a bool is very soon...... :O

Hang in there. Though I think of Lisey's Story fondly, I think of it as different; different enough to understand someone being tempted not to continue it. I'm glad I didn't quit, because I like strange and to me it's very strange.

Ahh, the hunt for the Bool Hunt(much more fun than the whole Red October thing)...you'll like it-this story slowly takes you over, and it's worth the wait...

    I agree.

I picked this up when it first came out in paperback. Tried reading and after about 100 pages, put it back down.

Tried again a few months later, and it was like I was reading a whole new book. I loved it. I need to read it again, as I'm sure there's lots of stuff I didn't pick up on the first time around.

I think being so long "out of the loop" actually enhanced my patience with this book. There are undoubtedly stagnant moments, but if you appreciate Mr. King's style you have to realize that it's all about character development. Just finishing up "Part One" at page 170 I already know Lisey better than I know any of my six brothers.I can walk into a room with her and experience he same depression, fears, joy, confusion, whatever just about as she does because of the way Mr. King [King] has exposed so much of Lisey, and Scott as well.

Don't go into a King novel expecting reams of dialogue. The main characters are introspective, perhaps to a reader's discomfort (such as the initial commentator in this blog); but if you can "suspend your disbelief" or even just empathize, a King novel will almost always take you on a wild ride by the end. I'm basing my projection of excitement on later comments in this blog, but, for now, I'm happy too kick back with prose that moves me in ways i could neveer predict, just drifting along on this slow, rich, ride.
