Default List of horror and non-horror books

The other day I was thinking about how to label some of Stephen King's works and which of them could be qualified as horror books and which fell in the "non-horror" category...

    I made the following list:

HORROR BOOKS (books that has strong horror elements through out the story, even if horror isn't the main plot)

    Bag of Bones
    Carrie
    Cell
    Christine
    Cujo
    The Dark Half
    Desperation
    Dreamcatcher
    Duma Key
    Everything's Eventual
    Gerald's Game
    Four Past Midnight
    From a Buick 8
    Insomnia
    It
    Lisey's Story
    Misery
    Night Shift
    Needful Things
    Nightmares & Dreamscapes
    Pet Sematary
    Rose Madder
    The Regulators
    Salem's Lote
    Skeleton Crew
    The Shining
    The Stand
    The Tommyknockers
    Thinner

NON-HORROR BOOKS (Books that only bring weak horror elements in smalls parts of the story or don't show any horror element at all):

    Black House (fantasy)
    Blaze (thriller/mistery)
    The Colorado Kid (mistery)
    The Dead Zone (thriller/mistery)
    Different Seasons (drama)
    Dolores Claiborne (drama)
    The Dark Tower series (fantasy)
    Eyes of the Dragon (fantasy)
    The Green Mile (drama)
Girl who Loved Tom Gordon (thriller/drama)
    Hearts in Atlantis (drama)
    The Long Walk (thriller)
    Rage (thriller)
    Roadwork (thriller)
    The Running Man (thriller)
    The Talisman (fantasy)

    MIXED COLLECTIONS
Just After Sunset (horror stories and non-horror stories)

DONīT KNOW BECAUSE I HAVENīT READ YET
    Blockade Billy
    Under the Dome

This list was total discritionary based on my judgement. But I'd like to know from you, if you agree with that or if you'd like to change something from my list.

    Thank you very much...

I would say to move Black House to the other list-The Fisherman to me is pretty horrorific...

I don't know if Insomnia is a "horror" story or not, but it certainly is horrible.

I might just be me, but Duma Key, and Rose Madder could move to the next list, as there were only a few 'horror' scenes IMHO.

your list is fine. I just think my idea of 'horror' is probably different from yours. for example, I heard recently on the boobtube about an infant 'forgotten' in a locked car. Now thats sad ofcourse, but in this terribly hot weather, it is also a real horror to realize your babe was left there to die-and to die so horribly.Thats the stuff of nightmares.
hope I havent offended anyone, and I certainly dont mean to critize, your list looks pretty good. I just think we all set our own 'horror' list....not right or wrong just personal. I think writers catergize by a set of rules for what is classified as horror, and such

IMO Bag of Bones, Rose Madder and Duma Key are more suspense than actual horror so I would put those on the non-horror list and Black House would move to the horror list.

Really it all comes down to each reader perception I guess. What I find horror someone else may not.

    Good job with your list!

SK's list of non horror is pretty small. I consider any of his books that have supernatural or sci-fi story lines to be either horror or soft horror. The Green Mile, Delores Claiborne, The Shawshank Redemption, My Pretty Pony weren't so much horror stories as mystery, drama, thrillers. Black House, The Dark Tower series, and eyes of the Dragon definately had some scary monsters in them. Nice list...helps me decide what to read next
