Default First time reading finished (spoilers maybe)

I just finished this book over the weekend. I have to say its not at all what I thought it would be. I figured I would be scared out of my gourd, but it wasnt that bad. In the beginning of the book, I kept waiting and waiting in suspense knowing the vampires would just jump out and get everyone, but I like how it slowly led up to that. Very suspenseful! It was a very good book, but I am and probably always will be, partial to The Talisman. It captivated me when I was a teenager and still does to this day. I was astonished at the fact that it only cost Ben $3 to fill up the doc's Buick. LOL! There were parts that did spook me a little though. Oh yeah and then there's the fact I drew all the shades down at night, but I wasnt scared................

Glad to see you enjoyed 'Salem's Lot, Dinky. It's one of my favourites, and it certainly spooked me too! I read it in a couple of days because I couldn't put it down, the suspense at the end of every chapter was (almost!) killing me!

Have you seen the revised/expanded/illustrated version released in '05 by Doubleday? It's got some neat new detail thrown in...and as far as the story goes, I thought it was just creepy enough to keep my interest without being over the top...

I read 'Salems Lot in my High School days and I didnt particularly enjoy it. I just read it again at the age of 32 (as part of a personal project) and really enjoyed the heck out of it.
This book did scare me about as much as a book could (or has). I take the dog out to do his business at 1AM ish on weekend and I found myself jumping at shadows and noises. Waking up in the middle of the night from a dream related to 'Salem's Lot, thinking I heard something in the apartment.

I remember my mother telling me when she read 'Salems Lot years and years ago when I was a pup, she was extremely frightened. She even went as far as to putting newspapers/papers over the windows.

I've been looking for Salem's Lot in library, but cant get it yet....sooner or later it will turn up. I'm about due to read from a Buick 8 again. I just keep going back and reading them over & over--what a selection! My daughter-in-law would read them but shes terrified of .....clowns and wont take any chances one might slip in there.

Dear lord you are one brave soul Dinky. The first time I read it (and then made the very dumb decision to watch the movie the same night) I was a nervous wreck. To this day I've got to sleep with my blinds closed and lord help my boyfriend if something scrapes against the window. It still tops my list of SK favs though.

I watched the movie back in the 70s (I think)..... Sometimes, I can still see/hear that little boy scratching at the window....
A story that can still give a person the creeps years later, is something that I truly love. ♥

Glad you liked 'Salem's Lot. I've read it twice so far. The part that scared me the most was when Ben had to drive the baseball bat through Susan's heart. I felt kind of bad for Ben and Susan too. I think I was a little angry at Mr. King for killing Susan the first time I read it.
