Ending question

OKay I was rewatching this movie and in the end where the little like story thing came up I was confused Did the Satellite the russians destroyed cause all the machines to go crazy or was it the comet?

I think the satellite was just another casualty of the "crazy machines" phenomenon... just an illustration of how far-reaching the effects were. The cause was definitely the comet. Or that's the way I read it, anyway.

It's funny, I can't really remember how the movie of Maximum Overdrive ended. I think it had a positive ending. Man, it's been a long time since I've seen the movie.

My interpretation has always been that the Russian satellite had not been targeted by the UFO that was hiding in the comet- which was then shot down- and as it goes, the survivors of the Dixie Boy, are still surviving
