Default Stephen King night at the Outdoor Movie Theater

I am lucky in that the Outdoor movie theater I grew up around is still running and doing well (unlike most outdoors here in IL) near my moms house in Northern,Il. I try to hit it up once or twice a year and bring a cooler full of beer and sit outside and watch movies.

They basically stop all new movies played in mid to late august and then do old movies.

In late August or early September they are doing a Stephen King night with the Shining and Shawshank Redemption.

What beats watching those movies back to back with the soon to be wife and my dog and a cooler of beer outside on a nice night?

Keep the dog away from the cooler-that frickin' cur will suck down all your suds...I know how they can be-all waggin' tails and slobberin' jowls until your back is turned, then BLAM-you brewski's go bye-bye...

Awww Man! That sounds soooo cool! Our last drive-in closed last year. I remember taking a few of the kids (my son, nieces, nephews) with sleeping bags pillows etc, in the back of the pick-up watching scary movies and pigging out. The Shinning on the big outdoor screen~~~~~~~~~

We haven't had an outdoor movie theater here for years. For a few years when I was little, we lived in a trailer park next door to the theater. I used to watch the movies from the window, albeit without sound. I remember how exciting it was to go there and hook the speaker on the car window and watch Herbie the Love Bug.

My wife and I used to go to a local drive-in. The last movie we saw there was Mission Impossible. Then they sold the property and put a Wal-Mart there. Sad.

I have a basement home theater and for years I've been talking about bringing the projector outside for a night, but I've never gotten around to it. It would be a hassle to wire the speakers and I'd worry about rain. I'm sure my daughters would love it but by the time it gets dark out this time of year, it's well past their bedtime!

FF you bought to mind those long ago times when we had ree-to-reel projectors to watch home movies ( 99% of you were not even born).
You had the big camera (no sound) and film occasions and then send them to be processed. Then when the video finally came everyone would gather round, popcorn soda and watch everybody acting goofy, waving maniacally at the camera, over exageratting mouth lip to "say" "I love uou or "Happy Birthday" or what have you. Good times.
