Default Looking to read new authors

I am always looking for new authors to check out. Can anyone recommend anything by Robert McCammon or anyone else in that genre or the medical genre.

Other than SK I mainly read Patricia Cornwell (new stuff is not so good), Kathy Reich, Robin Cook or anything else that has a good story to it. I am not a big fan of the novels that focus solely on vampires and fairies and that stuff.

I am looking forward to seeing some of the suggestions!

I'm a big fan of Michael Chricton. He was a science fiction author, and the creator of the tv show ER

I would suggest you try "Heart Shaped Box" by a little known (as yet) Joe Hill. One of my favorite reads since picking up "The Stand" when I was a boy.

If you like zombie fiction Remy Porter's Dead Beat is worth a look.

The Swan Song and Boy's Life by Robert McCammon were great. Also, try Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Funny story. I had a signed copy of The Swan Song I paid 1.00 for. A guy my dad used to do work for had it in his wife's sewing shop. Their son had attended college with McCammon. Sad story part, though, is that I let my nephew read the book and their house burned along with my signed book. I like McCammon a lot, he is talented and one of the few authors other than King that can hold my interest with a novel. Of course, I may be bias since we are both Alabama boys lol.

I just started reading Nelson DeMille's Word of Honor. So far, it is pretty entertaining. It's not about the medical field, though. It is a story about an ex-officer in viet nam that was in charge when a massacre took place and subsequently has to fight for his innocence. A lot of elements to the book.

Robert McCammon's Swan Song should be good. Haven't read it myself, but it is compared with The Stand. Justin Cronin's The Passage would be in that same category.

    Michael Crichton is great.
If you want to spice things up and try something completely different, I recommend Cormac McCarthy or Jose Saramago.
No Country of Old Men by McCarthy is splendid and Blindness by Saramago breaks your heart.
For historal novels.. try the Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk.
The classics: Ray Bradbury is a good one to start.

I hope this helped a little.

You should definitely read the new one by Justin Cronin, The Passage.
    Neil Gaiman
    Jack Ketchum
I'll add a third rec for Joe Hill.
