    Default The Stand

I'm trying not to sound like an idiot here, but I've researching the graphic novels of The Stand. I've ordered what I assumed was the first in the series, (Captain Trips) but have run across a second cover of the book. The one I ordered has whom I assumed was Randall Flagg with his arms spread, wild hair askew, standing in front of a sunset. Now I 've found that there's another with three faces on it, done in red and blue. My book club offers both but it doesn't give any information on which is the 'real' first edition. They both claim to be. Are they possibly just two different covers of the same thing? If someone could answer my question I'd be most grateful.

The one with Flagg's arms outspread is the first printing cover. I can't find a picture of the other one you described even on Marvel's site. There was a second printing with a variant cover but it's not 3 faces done in red and blue.

There were variant covers released with all(and ongoing)issues of the graphic novels...never heard or saw anything as you described i.e. red and blue-be vary wary. Research the Marvel website, they usually put up galleries of variant covers. I quit collecting them because it got stupid from a price standpoint...and if there's that many out there, the value won't hold-and I realized-I'm reading for the enjoyment, not as an investment. Had to work thru my inclination to "have everything"...

Started reading The Stand graphic novels. So far I've read #1 Captain Trips, #2 American Nightmares, and #3 Soul Survivors. Looking forward to #4 and #5 (i think it come out July 2011). For me it has been at least two years since I read the novel and since have watched the mini-series prolly three or four times. When I read novels (especially SK) I really try to paint a picture in my head of how the characters look as described by the author (by the way SK is the best at painting pictures in my head). For instances while reading The Stand, I could picture Fran as the girl next door. A girl that the guys could pine over. A very cute down to earth girl. Molly Ringwald (played Fran in the Mini-series) was not that girl. I dont find Molly atractive but thats not the main thing, Fran has a quility about her that the actress just could not portray. Also Corin Nemec (who played Harold) was no where near pathetic enough, and if there was one word that described Harold at the beginning of the book it was pathetic. Stuff like that bother me about the Mini-Series but yet I've watched 4 times in the last 2 years. I really love this story. I know this sounds like a rant, but my point is that with these graphic novels, it seem like the artist really studied the text to draw and portray these characters. Point is I really been enjoying these comics.

I just recently dove headfirst back into some comic book collecting, (thanks in no small part to a certain series about dead folk walking around), and i stumbled across this one quite by accident. I only have the first one, Captain Trips, so far, but I'm already looking forward to the rest of them. Love the fact that it's hardcover, that seems so cool to me.
