    Question I am struggling

I have had this book for probably about a year now and have started it quite a few times. I am about 60 pages in and I am lost! I am really struggling with the flashbacks and I don't find that the storyline is grabbing me the way UTD, Duma Key and Bag of Bones did. Do I keep plugging along? I have read a lot of fantastic reviews so I really really want to love this book!

Well,I've just read that book for about 20 days and I really enjoyed it.The story grabbed me from the beginning so I think it's just a matter of taste. The previous book I read was From a buick 8 which i found rather disappointing but Lisey's story is top class.

Keep reading. It will all come together after a few more pages. Many of SK books have flashbacks/ shifts in time. You will get used to this as time goes on. Take it slow as you read Lisey's Story. Re read a part if you are not comfortable with the happenings. Once you get the flow, it will be a very enjoyable ride.

I was the same way. I started Lisey's Story twice before I actually read it through. Once you get past about page 100 or so...it grabs you enough to keep you. I actually liked it once I got through those first hundred pages.

    jlee,

I didn't get into this one right off the bat either. At some point it hooked me though and I couldn't put it down. I hope you keep reading it. There might be something in there that hooks you as well!

By the time I started Lisey's Story I'd read probably at least a half dozen sK in fairly rapid succession, and had come to realize two things: his style changed over the years (improving), and a subsequent story may resemble his last not in the least. I believe the reason I found these things perfectly tolerable was that I'd discovered him late in my literary life--a tired old treasure hunter tripping over the lid of a partially buried pirate's chest--and that I personally needed to be affected by this man's imagination.

I've found the ride of Rose Madder and Lisey's Story, for instance, enjoyable but in a different way from The Shining or Misery.

    I say ride it out.

maybe you're trying to place the flashbacks? maybe best thing is to just think of them as that, flashbacks. seems like when i read it (and i read it four five times, great story) i wanted to understand the flashbacks, try to keep the storyline in mind, a-b-c-d...and i dunno if that is that important. lisey is remembering things and remembering things is going to help her out along the road. so this time through, don't try to make more of them that, flashbacks, and see what/how they help out lisey, what she does with them.

it's an incredible tale. well worth the read. i want to read it again after a time.

Thank you for all the replies! I am very excited to finish the book. I have taken a break and am reading The Talisman but as soon as I am finished I am going to tackle Lisey again. It sounds like you all really enjoyed the book!

I read it at least three times-before everything fell into place for me...course, I'm not the brightest bulb on the porch...
