    Default The Woman in Black

Has anyone seen the TV movie The Woman in Black? It was released in the UK in 1989 on Christmas Eve funnily enough. I saw it when I was about 9 or 10 and thought it was really creepy! I still think it's creepy now, 20+ years later! I am a sucker for a good old fashioned ghost story though, and this fits the bill just perfectly. The book by Susan Hill was out in 1983, and it has been made into a successful play too. I think the TV movie is hard to come by, but if you get the chance to see it I think it will be worth it - the music itself is creepy! It is on you tube I think in installments - I came across it one night while the other half was on night shift, but I didn't want to watch it by myself at night (even though I have seen it lots of times!). There is one scene in particular which would mean that I wouldn't be able to go to bed lol!

I know I harp on about this a lot, but I just love it!

I've also seen the play and that was fantastic too! I know that the author Susan Wells didn't like the TV film they made, but I loved it! It was seeing the film that made me want to see the play and read the book anyway! Yep, it's one of my faves - a good old-fashioned ghost story, you can't beat it I did see online somewhere that Hammer films were going to do a remake of The Woman in Black, so will wait and see if it actually does. I will go and see it of course if it does get remade, but I don't think you can beat the original.

It's definitely going to happen! - Hammer films have announced that they will be releasing the remake of The Woman in Black in 2011. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur. I can't wait! I just hope they do a good job and don't butcher the original.

My girlfriend saw the play in London years ago and was so rattled that she got lost in the fog on her way back to her hotel. I read the book and thought it was wonderful! Maybe it is on Netflix?

I had a look on Netflix, and it seems that site is for US residents only - plus the film wasn't there anyway, but thanks for the suggestion. I'm really looking forward to the movie. I just hope it's as spooky as the TV film they made as I know the author of The Woman in Black did not like the TV film!

A dear friend absolutely insisted I see The Woman in Black. I finally found a DVD I could afford. I say it's horror classic and a must see for any horror movie fan, especially those of ghost stories. If I can find an affordable used copy of the novel I'll definitely get it.

This is one of the things I really love about skmb--who knows when otherwise I'd realize I want to read that book?

I agree, it's a classic! I just love old fashioned ghost stories, and this is just the ticket!

Have just seen the teaser trailer for the 2011 version of this film, and it looks good!!! Was a bit worried that Hammer wouldn't do it justice, but I can't wait to see this movie! I was also a bit dubious about Daniel Radcliffe playing the role of Arthur, but from what I've seen, I think he's done well! Cannot wait to see this movie!!!

I read this story and also watched this on UK TV when it was first shown; it made a big impression on me. I have a copy on DVD now and I still think it's one of the best ghost stories ever - to read or to watch. The atmosphere in the TV adaptation is really oppressive and full of dread - once seen, never forgotten.
