This novel was the scariest one that he wrote when I read it when I was in High School. It really was one that made me think, "sometimes, dead is better..."
Yes, I believe he said this first in a Playboy interview in the early 1980's. These interviews were compiled later into a book entitled, "Bare Bones Interviews". I checked this book out at a library in Morganton, NC in 1995, and found it to be a very interesting read. There was some of Stephen's 'foreword' type of things thrown in also. One of the interviewers stated that Stephen took more aspirins than he drank beer. So Stephen went into quite a bit of detail of his take on his headaches during this part of his career. He also told of writing Carrie in the small, cramped space in the trailer the family lived in early in their marriage, too.
I don't really believe he intended for Pet Sematary to take the turn it did toward the end. I may be mistaken here, but he may have gotten himself into a situation where he could not end it another way. At least, from his point of view. And, of course, he had other ongoing writing projects, as well as his responsibilities as a husband, a father and a businessman. Perhaps -- as he has said in "On Writing" about some of his work -- that was the best he could do with this particular story. I dunno, just my opinion. Hope everyone has a nice day, too![]()
