    Default On Re-reading ~~~~~~

This happens to me alot and it is strange The first time I read UTD,I did not fancy it much. I just finished it again and loved every word! The same thing with Insomnia....which is my all time favorite.

Are other's having the same experience with reading?

What amazes me when I re read a book is the number of flash forwards that were present. The little clues that were there, but you just read over them the first time around.

I don't do quick re-reads like a lot of folks here. I have to let them sit for 5 years at a minimum.

But yeah, my opinion often changes with the re-read, and usually for the better. It, Desperation, Dreamcatcher, Rose Madder and Bag of Bones were all much better than the first time I read them.

I reread all my favorites by any author once a year. (By the book calendar)
    And I love it.
I'm rereading the Great Gatsby right now and just finished rereading To Kill a Mockingbird. Next month, it'll be the DT series again.

    Hi,

Glad you liked UtD the second time, Staro.

I thought your initial disappointment with it surprising!

I've just finished DT, and I'm gonna re-read them all in chronologiical order, starting with Carrie.

    Long days and pleasant nights

I was a habitual re-reader at one point, but I've been doing good recently. Over a year now I've been reading entirely new books (even though Lord of the Rings always starts calling out to me around this time of year). I agree about what everyone else here has said about liking books more on the second time around. I hated Blackhouse the first time I read it, and while I'm still not crazy about it, the second read was much more enjoyable as I knew what to expect. I've found a lot of King books only get better the more rides you take.

Re-reads for me often reveal detail I missed on the original page-rifflin' adventure...I read like a fat guy at an endless buffet the first go around....

Recently, I re-read The Stand, Unabridged, it completely blew me away. I could not believe how much I'd forgotten. I kept telling my fiancee that it's like reading it for the first time.

    Rose,
If you like To Kill a Mockingbird, then read The Bottoms by Joe R. Lansdale. This novel was one of the best during the last decade.

    John,
You have the right idea. I want to start re-reading King again, too, beginning with Carrie. I really want to get into The Shining and The Stand.

Im not a big re-reader of the long ones, but I SO love Kings short stories! I could read them over and over again, for some reason they always surprise me. And even in the shorties I find things that I missed before. Should make an effort to go back through the novels. Could read Liseys Story and Bag of Bones again..?
