Rereading the Shining

Just started again with this amazing book. I love it, just as I did the first time I read it. Well, not true - MORE.
Still, this is one of the few Stephen King books that the characters from the book kinda overtake the images of the book characters. I read and I see Jack Nicholson in my mind. Well, he certainly made this character his own.

I never see Jack Nicholson anymore. Probably because I think that Jack Torrence is a much more sympathetic character than the one played in the Kubrick movie. Jack is supposed to really love his child and wife and the house works its will on him till he goes out of control and eventually redeems himself. I listened to the audiobook recently and that got Nicholson's voice out of my head.

Yeah Michal, ole Jack sure chewed up the scenery in the movie-but I have to agree with smp that the character as written is much more multi-dimensional...Jack sorta played him as a wing-nut most of the film-then really let loose the lunacy at the end-it was great casting, just too over the top...I couldn't find the pathos in Nicholson's role as I could in King's written character...
